Pilots eject safely after Navy plane crash near Kemper, Noxubee county line
Two pilots ejected safely after a Navy plane crashed Tuesday near the Kemper and Noxubee county line, Kemper County Sheriff James Moore said. The crash occurred in the Tanner Farms area along Highway 45 in Noxubee County, Moore said.
Authorities said both pilots ejected following the crash. Additional details, including what led to the crash and the condition of the aircraft, were not immediately available.
The U.S. Navy operates a broad range of aircraft for training and operational missions; many military aircraft are equipped with ejection seats intended to allow aircrew to escape when aircraft become uncontrollable. Incidents involving military aircraft are relatively uncommon but typically prompt reviews by military safety officials to determine cause and any safety implications.
The crash near the Kemper-Noxubee line underscores the potential risks of military flight operations over and near populated or rural areas, and local and military officials may coordinate response and investigation efforts. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
