Facebook shows ‘content isn’t available’ when post restricted

Facebook displays the message “This content isn’t available right now” when a post cannot be viewed, and the platform attributes the notice to a handful of common causes.

On-screen guidance from Facebook says the message typically appears when the owner shared the post with a limited audience, changed who can see it or deleted it. The same notice can appear if a user deactivates their account or if Facebook removes material that violates its community standards.

Facebook, the social network owned by Meta Platforms Inc., hosts billions of posts and relies on privacy settings and moderation policies to control who can view content. Users set audiences for posts — such as public, friends or custom lists — and adjusting those settings can immediately make previously visible content inaccessible to others.

The notice matters for people trying to verify information, preserve public records or follow news stories shared on social media. If a post disappears, users can try contacting the account owner or review their own privacy settings to confirm access. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
