Hattiesburg woman arrested in fatal domestic stabbing

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — The Hattiesburg Police Department arrested a woman after a domestic-related stabbing early Thursday that left one person dead, the department said.

Officers responded at approximately 1:19 a.m. on July 16, 2026, to the 800 block of Main Street regarding a reported stabbing, the department said in a Facebook post. Upon arrival, officers located a victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the incident occurred during a domestic dispute between two people who were living together. Trakeima Carr, 48, of Hattiesburg, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and was transported to the Forrest County Jail, the post said.

The Hattiesburg Police Department described the homicide as an isolated incident and said there is no threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
