Woman arrested on aggravated DUI in fatal Lowndes County crash

Lowndes County deputies arrested a Noxubee County woman on an aggravated DUI charge after a Feb. 18 crash on Industrial Road that killed a man working a street sweeper, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded at about 3:09 p.m. and determined a white Jones Logistics semi-truck driven by Amanda Carrie Ross, 34, struck the rear of a United Rentals street sweeper operated by Leslie Brent Williamson, the sheriff’s office said. Williamson was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle, where he later died.

A deputy trained in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing evaluated Ross, who showed clues of impairment, and Ross admitted taking and possessing Lortab, the office said. Investigators obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, and a court-authorized draw was performed at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle.

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office received toxicology results from the Mississippi Forensic Crime Laboratory on June 30, 2026, which indicated the presence of several controlled substances, the office said. Investigators then obtained an arrest warrant charging Ross with aggravated DUI, a charge that under Mississippi law applies when impaired driving results in a death.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Ross at her Noxubee County residence without incident, and she was taken to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center to await an initial court appearance. No bond had been set, the sheriff’s office said. Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said, “This case is a tragic reminder that impaired driving—whether caused by alcohol, illegal drugs, or prescription medications—can have devastating consequences. We hope this case serves as a reminder that those who choose to drive while impaired will be held accountable under the law.”

As with all criminal cases, the charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
