Sheriff Jim H. Johnson’s office said deputies responded Saturday, May 16, 2026, at approximately 6:03 p.m. to County Road 1303 in the Pratts/Friendship community after a report of an altercation involving an injured male.
Upon arrival, deputies located a man identified as Randy Hallmark unresponsive at the side of the road with apparent stab wounds, the office said in a Facebook post. Emergency medical personnel were on scene rendering aid, but Hallmark succumbed to his injuries.
The sheriff’s office said deputies then went to the residence where the altercation reportedly began. Investigators took one person of interest and one witness into custody for investigative purposes, and the incident remains under active investigation.
The office said it will present all gathered information and evidence to the District Attorney’s Office and to the next available grand jury for review. Presentation to a district attorney and a grand jury is a routine step in determining potential criminal charges. No additional information is being released at this time.
