Mayor Willis Thompson urged Streetball students to dream bigger and make wise decisions before games at the program in Vicksburg, Mississippi, the Vicksburg Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The department said the visit stressed mentorship and the role sports can play in building leadership, character and purpose among young people. It described the conversation as an integral part of the Streetball experience, occurring before games began.
Community leaders and volunteers who invest time and guidance in youth programs like Streetball aim to strengthen ties between young residents and civic institutions, promote positive decision-making and support long-term opportunities for participants. The Vicksburg Police Department thanked those who continue to mentor the next generation.
