Hattiesburg observes National Police Week with memorial, community events

The Hattiesburg Police Department is observing National Police Week with a series of community events May 12-14, the department said. The events aim to honor officers who died in the line of duty, recognize current officers and strengthen ties between police and the community.

National Police Week is observed each May to honor law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty and to recognize the service of officers across the country, the department said. For Hattiesburg, the week focuses on remembrance, service and community support.

Events include Coffee with a Cop on Tuesday, May 12, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Grin Coffee, 415 Broadway Drive, where residents can stop by for coffee, meet officers and ask questions, the department said. A Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony is set for Wednesday, May 13, at 10 a.m. at the Lake Terrace Convention Center to honor local officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. The department asked residents to “Paint Hattiesburg Blue” by wearing blue on Thursday, May 14, to show support.

The Hattiesburg Police Department invited the public to participate in any or all events. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
