Hattiesburg Police visit Grin Coffee, invite public to law enforcement memorial
HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — The Hattiesburg Police Department thanked residents Wednesday after officers met customers at Grin Coffee to answer questions and build ties with the community, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department said the informal meet-and-greet gave residents a chance to get to know the men and women who serve Hattiesburg every day. “These moments matter,” the post said, adding that such interactions help build trust and strengthen relationships between officers and the public.
The post also said Hattiesburg Police will join other area agencies for the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at the Lake Terrace Convention Center. The ceremony will honor law enforcement officers who gave their lives in service to others, the department said.
Community engagement events are a common element of community policing strategies aimed at improving communication and trust between law enforcement and residents.
