Gulfport teen arrested after shooting leaves man critically injured

GULFPORT, Miss. — A 17-year-old Gulfport resident was arrested Thursday night after a man was shot multiple times and was hospitalized in critical condition, the Gulfport Police Department said.

Authorities identified the suspect as John Edward Knight Jr., 17, of Gulfport. Knight was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting on the 3300 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard, the police department said and WLOX reported.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he remained in critical condition, according to authorities. Police have not released further details about the victim’s identity or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

Knight was taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and was being held on $250,000 bond, WLOX reported. Aggravated assault is a serious criminal charge that can lead to prosecution in the county court system.
