Gulfport man arrested on aggravated assault charge after Polk Street shooting

GULFPORT, Miss. — The Gulfport Police Department said May 1 it arrested 34-year-old Christopher Charles Clark of Gulfport and charged him with one count of aggravated assault after a shooting in the city the previous day.

Police said officers responded April 30 at approximately 1:26 p.m. to the area of Polk Street and Alabama Avenue and found a victim suffering gunshot wounds. The victim initially refused medical attention but later was taken to a local hospital by a family member, the department said in a news release posted on its Facebook page.

Detectives identified Clark as the suspect during the investigation. Clark was located in Ocean Springs and arrested by the Ocean Springs Police Department, the release said. He was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

The Gulfport release said the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Clark and the victim.
