Teen killed, others injured in crash on Highway 49 at Cynthia Road

An overnight crash on Highway 49 at Cynthia Road killed a 17-year-old girl and seriously injured three others, JPD said.

The two-vehicle collision occurred about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026, when a white 2023 Honda Accord traveling west on Cynthia Road crossed into the southbound lane of a gray 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander, according to JPD accident investigators.

The 18-year-old driver of the Honda was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The front passenger, a 17-year-old female, was fatally injured at the scene and the Hinds County coroner took custody of the body, JPD said. Next of kin have been notified.

A 15-year-old male rear passenger in the Honda sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable/critical condition, JPD said. The driver of the Mitsubishi complained of pain and was also transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Accident investigators with JPD continue to investigate the crash. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
