Gulfport man arrested after June 17 shooting, police recover marijuana
Gulfport police arrested 43-year-old Dawonne Donnelle Jones of Gulfport on June 24, charging him with one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, the Gulfport Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Police said officers responded June 17 at about 3:30 p.m. to the 4500 block of Engram Drive after reports of a shooting. While officers were en route, they were notified that Jones and two other people suffering from gunshot wounds had already been taken to a local hospital; all three victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Detectives determined the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation that escalated into gunfire, the department said. Investigators served search warrants at multiple locations and recovered marijuana during the probe.
Police said the investigation was aided by activity on social media when the suspect tagged the department and left a clue; detectives followed up and took Jones into custody without incident. He was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and is being held on $600,000 bond.
