Flash flooding possible across Mississippi today

A Facebook post said flash flooding is possible today in most of the state and urged residents to stay weather aware and safe.

Flash flooding can develop rapidly during heavy rainfall, especially where ground is already saturated or drainage is poor. These floods can sweep away vehicles, damage homes and infrastructure, and create hazardous conditions on roadways.

Officials recommend that people monitor local forecasts and alerts from the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies, avoid driving through flooded roads and low-lying areas, and move to higher ground if water begins to rise. Basic precautions include keeping a battery-powered radio, charging mobile devices, and following instructions from local authorities.
