The Jackson Police Department is investigating a homicide after a 19-year-old Black woman was fatally shot in the 200 block of S. Prentiss Street, police said.
Investigators said the woman was inside her residence when an unidentified vehicle drove past and fired multiple rounds into the home in an apparent drive-by shooting. She was struck by at least one gunshot and later died, police said.
According to witnesses, several other people, including several children, were inside the residence at the time. No additional injuries have been reported, the department said. Police did not release the victim’s name and said it will be released at a later time.
