Mississippi warns of severe storms, flash flooding Monday
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said Monday that the National Weather Service has issued a slight risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather and an elevated risk (Level 2) for flash flooding across north and central Mississippi on Monday, June 22, 2026.
Officials warned the system could produce damaging winds up to 60 mph, quarter-size hail, possible tornadoes and localized flash flooding that may lead to flooded roads and inundated low-lying areas.
MEMA posted on its Facebook page and urged residents to stay weather aware, keep phones charged, enable emergency alerts and to never drive through flooded roadways. The agency said those precautions are important because conditions can change rapidly during flash flood events.
The National Weather Service issues risk levels to help communities prepare and to guide local emergency response. Mississippi is frequently vulnerable to heavy summer rainfall and flash flooding, which can create life-threatening road conditions and rapid rises in water levels.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
