City to relocate police, fire training center

The city will relocate its Police and Fire Training Center after entering a contract with MZX Tech, LLC, an affiliate of SpacexAI, Mayor Musselwhite said in an official statement posted to the city blog and Facebook. The move will shift the former training center from Tulane Road to property on Swinnea Road just south of Stateline Road, the statement said.

The arrangement is a land swap that will transfer ownership of the city’s 51-acre site in exchange for 69 acres of new land surrounding an existing 20-acre parcel of city property and $40 million to construct new facilities, the mayor said. “This is an unprecedented private investment in public safety facilities for our city, county, state and possibly country,” Musselwhite said.

Musselwhite said the former center’s facilities “were functional, but not ideal,” and that a more centralized site will enhance efficiency for training operations. He said the funding will allow construction of cutting-edge facilities to elevate training and help recruitment, “solidifying the Southaven Police & Fire Departments’ elite capabilities for many years into the future.”

The city provided the statement on its official blog. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
