Oxford police host media management training for first responders
Oxford Police Department is hosting guest instructor Therese Apel this week for a Media Management for First Responders class, the department said in a Facebook post.
In the post, the department said it appreciated Apel for sharing her experience and helping officers better understand the importance of effective communication with the media and the community. The post said the department welcomed Apel for the weeklong training.
Media management training for police and other first responders typically covers topics such as working with journalists, crafting clear public messages, managing social media and handling press briefings during critical incidents. Departments say such training can help improve transparency, public trust and the speed and clarity of information during emergencies.
Oxford, Mississippi, is home to the University of Mississippi and hosts events that can involve large numbers of students and visitors, increasing the need for coordinated public information efforts. The Oxford Police Department did not provide additional details in its post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
