Brookhaven Animal Hospital offers free temporary pet boarding after tornado

BROOKHAVEN, Mississippi — Brookhaven Animal Hospital is offering free temporary boarding for pets after a tornado impacted the community, the hospital said Wednesday.

Residents affected by the storm who need a safe place for their animals can drop them off while they deal with cleanup and recovery, Brookhaven Animal Hospital said. The service is being offered at no cost for a couple of days, officials said.

The hospital is at 1210 U.S. 51 in Brookhaven and is open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, the statement said. Brookhaven Animal Hospital said it cannot board aggressive pets.

Short-term boarding by veterinary clinics and shelters is a common support measure after severe weather, allowing owners to focus on repairs, insurance claims and safety. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
