Hurricane Isaias strengthens; warnings issued in southeast Mississippi

Hurricane Isaias has strengthened into a major hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph and higher gusts, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

Mississippi is not expected to experience a direct landfall, but the storm is expected to bring impacts to the state. A hurricane warning and tropical storm warnings are in effect for several counties in southeast Mississippi.

The Mississippi coast faces a risk of heavy rainfall, gusty winds and storm surge. Residents are urged to continue monitoring the forecast and remain vigilant.
