County officials report Mississippi shelters open as Hurricane Isaias makes landfall

County officials have reported several shelters and safe rooms open to residents as Hurricane Isaias makes landfall. The openings were reported to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, and the facilities are operated locally.

Listed shelters include County Farm Shelter, 15035 County Farm Road, Gulfport; George County Shelter, 3161 Cooks Corner Road, Lucedale; Necaise Shelter, 30360 Highway 603, Perkinston; Jackson County EOC Shelter, 5500 Ballpark Road, Van Cleave; and Jackson County EOC Shelter, 1843 Highway 613, Moss Point.

Listed safe rooms are at Pearl River County Fairgrounds, 124 Rodeo St., Poplarville, and Picayune Community Safe Room, 501 Laurel St., Picayune.

The Harrison County Cooling Center at the Salvation Army Center of Hope, 2019 22nd Street in Gulfport, is open Monday through Friday from 9 to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
