Severe Weather Update

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency continues to respond to the severe weather events that impacted the state on March 14 and 15.

There are reports of homes damaged, trees down, roads closed, and power outages due to the storms.

Mississippi experienced a total of 61 tornadoes in 2023, 11 of which occurred in the months of November and December.

Individual assistance was approved for Hancock, Hinds, Humphreys, Madison, Neshoba, and Scott counties.

In the Spring of 2023, 50 tornadoes touched down, including an EF-4 tornado in Rolling Fork and an EF-3 tornado in Amory.

The purpose of the Public Assistance (PA) Grant Program is to support municipalities and counties recovering from major disasters.

The National Weather Service predicts long-track, strong, and violent tornadoes for a significant portion of North Mississippi.
