Mississippi State volleyball sweeps Jackson State at Ragin’ Cajuns Classic
Mississippi State improved to 2-0 at the Ragin' Cajuns Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana, with a 3-0 victory over Jackson State University.
The Bulldogs recorded 14 kills in the opening set and used an 8-0 scoring run to secure it. Mississippi State hit .474 with 19 kills in the second set, then held Jackson State to a .081 hitting percentage in the third set to complete the sweep.
Mississippi State hit .325 for the match, finishing with 46 kills and six service aces. Avery Power, McKenna Yates, Cayley Hanson, Kyla Scharfman, Lindsey Mangelson and Bernardita Aguilar each recorded an ace.
Aguilar hit .400 and had 12 kills. Mangelson led the Bulldogs with 15 kills and added 17 digs, a season high. Noella Obi had six kills, while Paloma Routaboul added seven.
Yates recorded 12 digs, Aguilar had eight and Hanson finished with 39 assists and one kill.
The Bulldogs will play their final match of the tournament tomorrow at 11 a.m. against UT Arlington. It will be the teams' first matchup since 2013.
