Gegg scores twice as Mississippi Christian defeats Union 3-1
Karim Gegg scored twice, including the go-ahead goal, as Mississippi Christian overcame an early deficit to defeat Union (Tenn.) 3-1 Saturday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton.
Union took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when George McDonnell scored. Gegg equalized in the 26th minute with an assist from Alvaro Pena, then put the Choctaws ahead eight minutes later off a pass from Lian Feridani.
Luke Nolan added an insurance goal in the 86th minute. The victory improved Mississippi Christian to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Mississippi Christian outshot Union 22-7 and put nine shots on goal, compared with two for the Bulldogs. The Choctaws had 12 shots in the second half. Jacob Davis hit the right post before halftime, and goalkeeper Santiago Dominguez made one save while playing all 90 minutes, including a stop on Christopher Cerda's attempt in the closing seconds.
Gegg finished with seven shots, including three on goal. Pena had four shots and two on frame, while Nolan recorded two shots, with one on goal.
Mississippi Christian will travel to Trevecca Nazarene on Sept. 19 for a 3:30 p.m. match.
