Silva Jr. scores twice, Toppers open season with 2-0 win over LSU Alexandria
Blue Mountain Christian University opened its 2026 men’s soccer season Saturday in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, beating LSU Alexandria 2-0 at Topper Pitch as Dipanda Silva Jr. scored both goals and goalkeeper Luan Nascimento recorded a shutout, the school reported.
The Generals applied early pressure with three shots in the first eight minutes, but the Toppers’ defense held. Nascimento made his first save on a Thiago Lopes shot in the 28th minute, and the game remained scoreless until the closing seconds of the first half.
Pedro Pina set up Silva, who converted with 25 seconds remaining in the half to give BMCU a 1-0 lead. Silva then missed a penalty in the 62nd minute, but he provided the insurance goal in the 87th minute when Sammuel Davi Cavalcante supplied the assist, giving BMCU a 2-0 advantage.
Nascimento finished with three saves to complete the clean sheet. Pina and Cavalcante each recorded an assist as the Toppers improved to 1-0 to start the season. BMCU is scheduled to play at Freed-Hardeman in Tennessee on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.
