Silva Jr. scores twice, Toppers open season with 2-0 win
Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University opened its 2026 men’s soccer season Saturday with a 2-0 victory over LSU Alexandria at Topper Pitch, the school said. Dipanda Silva Jr. scored both goals and goalkeeper Luan Nascimento recorded a clean sheet in the season and home opener.
LSU Alexandria applied early pressure, recording three shots in the opening eight minutes, but BMCU’s defense held. Erick Braga had an early attempt in the 26th minute, and Nascimento saved a shot from Thiago Lopes in the 28th, the school said.
With the match appearing headed to halftime scoreless, Pedro Pina played a ball to Silva, who scored with 25 seconds remaining in the first half to give BMCU a 1-0 lead. The Generals pressed in the second half, earning three straight corners in the 56th and 57th minutes, and Silva missed a penalty in the 62nd, the school reported.
BMCU built chances late, and Sammuel Davi Cavalcante set up Silva for an insurance goal in the 87th minute. Nascimento finished with three saves to preserve the shutout. Pina and Cavalcante each recorded an assist as BMCU improved to 1-0 to start the season. The team plays at Freed-Hardeman University on Aug. 25.
