Vieira’s late goal lifts Blue Mountain Christian to draw at Louisiana Christian

Davi Vieira scored a late equalizer as Blue Mountain Christian battled Louisiana Christian to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field in Pineville, Louisiana.

Louisiana Christian took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when Matej Motycka converted a loose ball inside the box following a corner kick. Blue Mountain Christian recorded seven shots in the opening half, including four on goal, but entered halftime behind.

The Toppers continued to apply pressure after halftime while holding Louisiana Christian scoreless. In the 86th minute, Davi Rainato sent a free kick into the box, and Vieira headed it in at the 85:37 mark to tie the match. The goal was Vieira’s first of the season, and Rainato was credited with the assist.

Neither team scored again. Blue Mountain Christian finished with a 13-11 advantage in total shots and led 4-3 in corner kicks, while Louisiana Christian held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Santiago Estebanez and Victor Silva led the Toppers with three attempts each, while Rainato and Sammuel Davi Cavalcante had two apiece. Goalkeeper Luan Nascimento played all 90 minutes and made six saves.

The draw moved Blue Mountain Christian to 3-1-3 on the season. The Toppers are scheduled to play Central Baptist College on Tuesday at The Summit.
