Mississippi Valley State volleyball falls to Dillard in three sets

Mississippi Valley State volleyball lost to Dillard 3-0 (10-25, 20-25, 21-25) at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex. The Delta Devils moved to 1-8 on the season.

Taylor Wooten led Mississippi Valley State with nine kills on 22 attempts, two attack errors and a .318 hitting percentage. She also recorded a service ace for a team-high 10 points. Aniyah Moore had five kills and led the team with two solo blocks and three block assists. The Delta Devils finished with a 6-5 advantage in team blocks.

Aubrie Walker added six kills, three block assists, three digs and a service ace. Brooklyn Brunt and Madison Conley had three kills apiece, while Hannah St. Croix and Kameryn Browne each had two. Browne led the offense with 16 assists, and Erin Mims added nine. Taylor Wilson recorded a team-high 10 digs, followed by Ashlynn Hawkins with six.

After dropping the opening set, Valley hit .281 with 12 kills and three attack errors in the second set. Wooten and Moore had four kills apiece, and MVSU recorded four team blocks, but Dillard won the set 25-20.

MVSU opened the third set with a 5-2 lead and twice tied the score after Dillard moved ahead. Valley later pulled within 21-19 and fought off two match points with consecutive kills by Walker before Dillard closed out the set 25-21. Wooten and Walker each had four kills in the final set, in which MVSU produced a match-best 13 kills.

Mississippi Valley State finished with 30 kills, 28 assists, 23 digs and two service aces. Dillard was led by Neveah Bax, who had 16 kills.

The Delta Devils will open Southwestern Athletic Conference play at home against Texas Southern on Friday, Sept. 25. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
