Jackson State sweeps Mississippi Valley State to open SWAC play 3-0

Jackson State swept Mississippi Valley State 3-0 on Wednesday night at the Harrison HPER Complex, winning 25-14, 25-17 and 25-16. The victory moved the Tigers to 7-9 overall and 3-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while Mississippi Valley State dropped to 1-11 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Jackson State hit .337 as a team and finished with 39 kills, 12 service aces and five blocks. The Tigers committed 10 attack errors across the three-set match.

Kyra Dove led Jackson State with 10 kills on 13 attacks and one error for a .692 hitting percentage. She also recorded two blocks. Shelby Zanders added eight kills without an attack error while hitting .615, and Hope Briggs had seven kills with a .429 hitting percentage.

Sophia McKenzie had four kills without an error on six attacks, hit .667 and recorded three service aces. Davis and Gadis combined for 29 assists, with Davis adding three aces.

Jackson State will return home to the AAC to host Bethune-Cookman on Friday evening. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
