Alcorn, Alabama State play to scoreless SWAC draw

Alcorn’s Lady Braves played Alabama State to a 0-0 tie Sunday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama, in the teams’ SWAC road opener. Alcorn entered the match with a 3-4-2 record and Alabama State with a 0-7-2 mark; both teams were 0-0-1 in conference play afterward.

Alcorn recorded five shots and three corner kicks in the first half. Elie Larissa Joso Luma had two shots, while Grace Ambrose, Deryn Doamekpor and Sophia Bobie also registered attempts. Alabama State finished the half with three shots and one corner kick, and Renata Da Rosa made one save for Alcorn.

The Lady Braves increased the pressure after halftime, producing 11 shots and four corner kicks. Ambrose hit the right post in the 61st minute, and Leyla Llanos Boursiquot struck the crossbar three minutes later. Bernita Baafi also had a shot hit the crossbar in the 74th minute.

Alcorn will return to Key City Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on Friday, Oct. 2, to host Grambling State in SWAC action. The 5 p.m. CT match will be Alcorn State’s home opener.
