Active-shooter drill planned at Osyka Elementary School
The Pike County Sheriff’s Office, South Pike School District and other local law enforcement agencies and Emergency Medical Services will conduct an active-shooter and campus-intruder drill Monday, September 14, 2026, at Osyka Elementary School.
The sheriff’s office said the exercise is planned training and does not involve an actual emergency. Residents may see a large police and emergency response presence in and around the school and were asked not to be alarmed.
The office said the exercise is part of an ongoing commitment to safety in Pike County, particularly for children. It said training with law enforcement, emergency medical services, school districts and community partners is intended to help participants respond effectively if a real emergency occurs.
The announcement was attributed to Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones. The sheriff’s office asked the public for patience, cooperation and understanding while public safety professionals conduct the training.
