Police Week honors fallen officers, service of law enforcement

A Facebook post marking the second day of National Police Week said Monday the community continues to honor the men and women who run toward danger while others run away, and especially remembers officers who paid the ultimate price protecting their communities.

The post said their bravery, service and sacrifice will never be forgotten and pledged support for families, friends and fellow officers who carry the badge in their honor. It noted that behind every badge are fathers, mothers, sons, daughters and neighbors who miss family dinners, holidays and moments with their children to keep communities safe.

National Police Week is observed annually in May to recognize law enforcement service and to honor officers who have died in the line of duty. The observance typically includes ceremonies and remembrances at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington.

The Facebook post included hashtags showing support for officers, including #NationalPoliceWeek, #BackTheBlue and #ThinBlueLine, and offered thanks for the unseen sacrifices and the calls that keep officers up at night. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
