Lowndes County posts roundabout safety tips
Lowndes County posted a “Traffic Tip Tuesday” message on its Facebook page outlining key rules for navigating roundabouts, reminding drivers that traffic already inside the circle has the right of way.
The county’s guidance lists several practices for drivers, including “Yield to the Left: Traffic already inside the circle has the right-of-way,” and “Merge Safely: Enter when there is an adequate gap in traffic, slowing down but not stopping unless necessary.”
It also advises drivers to “Stay in Lane: Do not change lanes while inside a multi-lane roundabout,” and to use a right turn signal when exiting. The post instructs motorists not to stop in the roundabout for emergency vehicles, but instead to exit at the first opportunity and pull over.
Roundabouts are used widely to improve traffic flow and reduce conflict points compared with traditional intersections, and clear signage and driver behavior are critical to their safety. The county’s reminders aim to reduce confusion and improve safety for local drivers. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
