NWS warns of flash flooding risk across Mississippi
The National Weather Service said it is forecasting a risk of flash flooding today across Mississippi and urged residents to stay weather aware and monitor emergency alerts.
The advisory, posted on the agency’s social media, emphasizes that rapidly rising water can create dangerous conditions. The National Weather Service is the federal agency responsible for issuing forecasts, watches and warnings intended to protect life and property.
Officials cautioned that flooded roadways pose particular hazards and advised people not to drive or walk through floodwater. “Turn around” guidance in the advisory reflects longstanding public safety messaging that floodwaters can be deeper and swifter than they appear and can sweep vehicles and people away.
Residents are advised to follow local emergency instructions, keep a battery-powered radio or mobile device for alerts and avoid traveling through flooded areas. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
