FEMA offers aid to Mississippi residents after January storms
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Mississippi residents in 36 counties affected by the Jan. 23–27 winter storms (DR-4899) may be eligible for Individual Assistance. FEMA said applicants can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by phone at 800-621-FEMA (3362) or through the free FEMA app.
Basic eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship or qualified immigration status, identity verification such as a Social Security number or other accepted documents, proof of home ownership or occupancy and unmet needs not covered by insurance, FEMA said.
FEMA is the federal agency that coordinates disaster response and recovery efforts and Individual Assistance typically helps residents with housing needs and other disaster-related expenses. Determinations depend on damage assessments and available resources, and applying promptly can speed access to support for temporary housing, repairs or other needs.
If your home or property was affected, FEMA urges you to apply as soon as possible using one of the three methods listed. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
