Vicksburg police investigate fatal shooting on Hope Street

VICKSBURG, Mississippi — Vicksburg police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 47-year-old woman dead Wednesday evening on the 2000 block of Hope Street, the department said.

Officers responded about 7:50 p.m. and located Clarinda Turpin with multiple gunshot wounds. Turpin was transported for medical treatment but later died, police said. The preliminary investigation indicates the incident stemmed from a domestic-related dispute.

Police identified a suspect as Jeremy Wright, who fled the scene. Authorities say Wright allegedly ingested an unknown substance while fleeing and was later apprehended at another location. He remains in custody and the Vicksburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vicksburg Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477). Marcus James, public affairs and communications specialist for the department, is the media contact. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
