Tornadoes reported across central, west Mississippi

Multiple tornadoes have been reported across central and west Mississippi, state officials said in a social media post. Officials urged residents to continue monitoring emergency alerts and take appropriate safety precautions.

The State of Mississippi said it is in contact with local emergency managers and first responders, and that the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is coordinating state search-and-rescue response. The post directed anyone needing assistance to call 911.

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, known as MEMA, is the state agency responsible for coordinating disaster response and recovery. Tornadoes can produce rapid, localized damage to homes, infrastructure and utilities, and coordinated state and local response aims to prioritize life-saving efforts and restore essential services.

The reports underscore the importance of staying tuned to weather and emergency alerts and following instructions from local authorities. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
