Mississippi warns tornadoes possible as Tropical Storm Arthur remnants move

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said on Facebook that remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur continue to move across the state and that severe storms, including tornadoes, are possible.

The agency urged residents to identify a safe place and to have a plan for their family if a tornado warning is issued. It said preparedness steps can reduce risk during fast-moving severe weather.

The agency also advised residents to know which National Weather Service office covers their area. Mississippi is served by National Weather Service offices in Jackson, Mississippi; Mobile, Alabama; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Memphis, Tennessee.

National Weather Service offices issue local forecasts and warnings tailored to specific counties and communities, so knowing the correct office can help residents receive timely, area-specific information.

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency encouraged people to take a moment to find their county on the map to determine which office covers their area, the agency said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
