Starkville police meet Junior Civics Leadership Academy students
The Starkville Police Department said on Facebook that officers met with students from the Stennis Institute’s Junior Civics Leadership Academy and shared information about department roles and public safety work.
According to the department’s post, the academy gives high school students experience in leadership, government and community development while providing an opportunity to earn college credit.
The Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development at Mississippi State University runs programs designed to prepare students for public service and to support local governments through research, training and outreach.
Police outreach to youth aims to familiarize students with civic institutions, encourage community involvement and expose future leaders to careers in public service. Such programs can help build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve and provide practical learning experiences for students.
Details about the meeting, including the number of students who attended and the topics covered, were not provided in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
