Southaven officers attend PLACET conference, start community garden
Lieutenant Harris and Officer Holliday spent the week at the PLACET 2026 conference in Dallas, Texas, the Southaven Police Department said on its Facebook page. The department said the officers attended workshops and sessions that emphasized prioritizing community engagement.
Southaven police said the community-focused sessions and speakers shared a common theme: building relationships is essential to strengthening the community. The department said that emphasis on communication and trust aligns with its belief that those elements help connect officers with residents and assist in reducing crime.
As part of their joint community service activity, the officers prepared and began cultivating a garden intended to provide fresh vegetables to members of their community, the post said. Community gardens and similar outreach projects are often used by law enforcement agencies to build trust, create regular positive contact and address local needs beyond traditional policing.
The Southaven Police Department serves the city of Southaven, Mississippi, and frequently highlights outreach efforts on its social media channels. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
