Popsicles in Park canceled due to extreme heat
Organizers canceled today’s Popsicles in the Park event because of extreme heat, they said in a Facebook post. The post said the safety of officers, staff and participating families comes first.
Popsicles in the Park is a community summer gathering that typically attracts families and children to outdoor park spaces for brief, family-friendly activities and refreshments. Similar events are often run by local agencies, community groups or parks departments to provide safe, low-cost recreation during warm months.
The Facebook post urged residents to take precautions, stay hydrated and avoid extended time outdoors this afternoon. Heat can increase the risk of heat-related illness, particularly for young children, older adults and people with underlying health conditions.
Cancellations of outdoor community events are a common response when extreme temperatures pose a safety threat. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
