Pike County highlights K-9 unit during National Police Week
Pike County Sheriff’s Office is celebrating National Police Week Sunday through Saturday, May 10-16, 2026, and is spotlighting its newly established K-9 unit, the office said.
The sheriff’s office said it no longer must rely on neighboring agencies from Tangipahoa Parish and surrounding parishes for K-9 support, and has assembled its own trained teams to serve the county.
The office identified three K-9 teams: Choppa with K-9 Deputy Austin White; Sasha with K-9 Deputy Steven Melton; and Hera with K-9 Deputy Cobi Whittington. The announcement thanked the handlers and dogs for their resilience, dedication and commitment to Pike County residents.
“The Pike County Sheriff’s Office is serious about protecting Pike County, and I will put our K-9 Unit up against any agency in the country. Our unit is skilled, trained, and ready to Geaux,” Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones said in the release.
The release was provided by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Department. National Police Week is observed annually in May to honor law enforcement officers and recognize their service. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
