Picayune police conclude fifth summer of Layups at Link
The Picayune Police Department said in a Facebook post that its “Layups at the Link” program has closed out its fifth summer, offering indoor basketball for junior high and high school–aged youth.
The department said the program runs every Monday in June and July and typically draws 25-30 youths each year. With Picayune First Baptist Church undergoing renovation, organizers thanked the Picayune School District for partnering and allowing use of the junior high gym.
The post noted the event kept a lighthearted tradition: pizza on the final Monday, provided through a donation from Domino’s. The department expressed appreciation for the restaurant’s generous support.
The Picayune Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for Picayune, Mississippi, and has frequently organized community outreach and youth activities. Programs like Layups at the Link provide supervised recreational opportunities during the summer and offer a regular point of contact between young residents and local officers.
