The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office on its Facebook page honored Sheriff Lee D. Vance on what it called the fifth anniversary of his death, saying the community still feels his absence.
In the post, the office said Vance was “a true public servant, leader, and friend to the people of Jackson and Hinds County” and that he “dedicated his life to protecting our community with integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment.” The post added, “His presence, his voice, and his leadership are still deeply missed.”
The sheriff’s office said the City of Jackson, county officials and citizens continue to carry his legacy forward and that the values he espoused — service that uplifts people, leadership rooted in respect and community partnerships — continue to guide their work.
Hinds County includes Jackson, the capital of Mississippi. Sheriffs typically serve as the chief law enforcement officers in their counties. The Facebook post concluded, “We honor him.
