Oxford Police promote three investigators in pinning ceremony

The Oxford Police Department promoted three members of its investigative unit during a pinning and promotion ceremony held yesterday, the department said in a Facebook post.

Investigative Lieutenant Mike Burks, Investigative Sergeant Kam Herod and Investigator Jake Gibbs received promotions, the post said, and the department congratulated them on their “dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving the Oxford community.” The department included celebratory photos and used hashtags including #OxfordPD, #PromotionCeremony, #Leadership and #CommunityFirst.

Promotion and pinning ceremonies in law enforcement traditionally recognize advancement in rank and responsibility and serve as public acknowledgements of officers’ service. Investigative units typically handle criminal inquiries and follow-up work intended to solve crimes and support prosecutions; promotions can reflect new supervisory duties and expanded leadership roles within those units.

The department did not provide further details about the officers’ assignments or the effective dates of the promotions. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
