Oxford police, bars promote sexual assault awareness with drink covers
OXFORD, Ohio — The Oxford Police Department is partnering with local bars to promote sexual assault prevention and awareness during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department said it will distribute drink covers at participating establishments and encourage safety conversations within the Oxford community. “Meeting needs to serve our community in any way we can! #BestCommunity 💙,” the post said.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month is observed each April to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to promote prevention through community action. Law enforcement agencies and hospitality venues often collaborate on measures such as drink covers, bystander training and safety messaging to reduce the risk of drink tampering and to encourage reporting.
The Oxford Police Department, which provides policing and public safety services for the city, said the effort aims to start conversations and provide practical tools patrons can use when socializing. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
