Retired JPD assistant chief Edna Drake spotted near Tougaloo College

A Facebook post says community members recently ran into retired JPD Assistant Chief of Police Edna Drake, who also retired from Tougaloo College as its chief of police. The post described the encounter as “priceless,” signaling warm recognition for a well-known figure.

Edna Drake served in leadership roles in municipal and campus law enforcement, according to the post. Tougaloo College is a private, historically Black liberal arts college in Jackson, Mississippi, that was founded in 1869 and is known for its role in civil rights history and higher education for African Americans.

Retired law enforcement leaders who have served both a city police department and a campus force often remain prominent in local communities and in conversations about public safety and campus policing. Encounters between alumni, students and retired officials frequently highlight the personal ties that shape campus life and local civic culture.

Details about the meeting were limited in the social media post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
