Reeves says Mississippi rises to 48th in health rankings

Gov. Tate Reeves said on Facebook that Mississippi moved up to 48th in national health rankings this year, after moving up one spot in 2024, following what he described as four decades in last place.

Reeves credited improvements to conservative governance and pointed to what he called the “Mississippi Miracle in Education,” saying the state has seen more jobs, better pay and higher educational attainment alongside strategic investments and a focus on residents’ health.

He predicted continued progress in health rankings over the next decade, drawing a parallel to gains he said the state made in educational outcomes over the past ten years.

State health rankings are commonly used to track population health and inform public policy decisions, though Reeves did not cite a specific ranking source in his post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
