Officer clocks vehicle at 91 mph on Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge

An Ocean Springs police officer recently clocked a vehicle traveling 91 mph while crossing the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge, the Ocean Springs Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The department warned that at that speed a driver has significantly less time to react to changing traffic conditions, stopped vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, debris or an unexpected emergency. A split-second decision can have life-changing consequences, the post said.

The department urged motorists to follow posted limits, stay alert and wear seat belts. “No destination is worth risking your life—or someone else’s,” the post said.

Speed limits are designed to reduce the risk of crashes and the severity of injuries when collisions occur. Higher speeds increase stopping distances and reduce a driver’s ability to avoid hazards. The Ocean Springs Police Department reminded residents to “Slow down. Buckle up. Drive responsibly.”
