Tornado warning covers George, Greene, Perry and Stone counties, Miss., until 10 a.m.

A tornado warning is in effect until 10 a.m. CDT for George, Greene, Perry and Stone counties in Mississippi, a Facebook post said. The post provided no additional details about storm location or damage.

National Weather Service guidance says a tornado warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar and poses an imminent threat to life and property. Warnings differ from watches, which indicate conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form.

Residents in the affected counties are advised to take immediate safety precautions. Officials generally recommend moving to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor, staying away from windows and covering oneself with a mattress or heavy blankets if possible. People driving should seek shelter in a sturdy building; vehicles and mobile homes offer little protection from tornadoes.

Local emergency management agencies and the National Weather Service may issue further updates. Monitor local media and official channels for additional information. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
