Gov. Tate Reeves said in a Facebook post that Mississippi should expect on-and-off rounds of rain over the next 24 to 36 hours as Tropical Storm Bertha impacts the coast.
Reeves said amounts for coastal Mississippi are expected to be less than one inch, with sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts exceeding 30 mph. He noted that the region is moving toward low tide today and tomorrow, which should reduce the impact of a storm surge forecast at 2 to 4 feet.
The update underscores the potential for coastal flooding, localized wind damage and dangerous marine conditions that often accompany tropical storms, even when rainfall totals remain modest. Residents along the coast were urged to remain aware of changing conditions and to take normal storm precautions.
